It’s official – we’re on a break!
Following our wonderfully successful production of My Fair Lady in April 2018 we are now officially resting darlings!
The way magazine copy writing works, though, is this article is being written three days before the Opening Night! We have just spent the last three days receiving scenery, props, costumes, lighting, and have been transforming our beautiful theatre home, the 400 Hall at Repton, into scenes from London in 1912. A fantastic team of members, parents, supporters and friends have worked very hard and we are all back there tomorrow to finish off before the technical run and band call.
Get in days are very hectic, with so much going on, but the starting point is getting everything that has been delivered into the right place – it’s like fitting a huge jigsaw together! Everyone is so busy that we suddenly realise that the pile of stuff everywhere has actually been cleared, and you can see the backstage room floor again, and everything is in the right place.
This year, as in previous years, we have been fortunate to have two people on our get-in team who are now working professionally in the West End. Bethan McKnight and Liam Tranter have ensured that the working parties all know what they are doing regarding staging and lighting, and they manage the days (and us!) with great skill and courtesy – we are hugely appreciative of their time and talents.
So, what next? After a short break from rehearsals, and some lovely social get-togethers, we will be back to start work on our next production –The Pirates of Penzance; Broadway version. This is a most hilarious show, obviously there are some very recognisable songs, lots of pirates, lots of humour, some misunderstandings, a few giggling daughters, a splendid Major General, and a most amusing Pirate King. Be prepared for a lot of swashing buckles!
We are really looking forward to presenting Pirates of Penzance from 9th-13th April 2019 and if you would like to come and join us for our next show please contact us at [email protected].
We will be holding New Members auditions early in September, so do get in touch and we will forward details – there is no need to bring an eye patch to the auditions!
